Brief History:
Reverend William Davis, whose name is commemorated by Davistown,
settled in Kincumber in 1839 - the year after it was decided to build
the Holy Cross - and taught in the school he opened. This was the first
school to be set up in the Brisbane Water District. One
of his sons, Ben, is remembered through the small village of Bensville
which was originally called Sunnyside. Ben Davis purchased 20Ha of land on
the Cockle Creek shores to set up his yard. William Davis' other sons Tom,
Ned and Rock also begun building their ships there, but later moved to
other sites. All 12 of them were to become widely known for their ship
building. Reference:
